I painted this watercolor "portrait" based on a photo of my cousin. But I didn't really want it to look like my cousin much at all. So it's not really a portrait, then, anyway. I liked the way that there was some darkness in the photo and his face seemed to be emerging out of the light. I did a large-scale oil painting of this same subject (24"x36" in early 1996) but I can't locate the painting. It was last seen hanging in a Borders in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania. Then one day it wasn't there anymore and nobody seems to know anything about it. Bummer. |
